Captivate, Educate and Activate Behaviors
During this session, participants will learn to apply health activation principles to their health education and health promotion efforts so that outputs reflect health-enhancing behaviors that pave the way to improved population health outcomes. Health activation focuses on taking small steps to create and sustain new behaviors rather than overemphasizing educational points and scientific facts. Participants will critically examine their instructional strategies and programs, and then apply educational strategies that build skills and motivate health-enhancing behaviors.

How to Expand Our Role and Effectiveness as Health Educators
As a nation we are spending 3 trillion dollars a year on health care. In spite of the fact that 70% of the disease we experience is preventable very few of those dollars go towards education and prevention. Unfortunately, funding for the people who could be the most effective in solving this problem is continually cut back. Health educators are one of the most valuable, yet underutilized resources to fill this gap. This presentation will explore a holistic approach to enhancing our effectiveness as health educators and how to make a greater difference in the lives of those we serve.
